Some say cycling is the new golf. The image above is a screengrab from apple.com. Here the consumer electronics giant features a laptop on its home page and as you can see images of cycling are used alongside surfing to showcase the product.
Obviously Apple aren’t the first and it’s only an image. HTC obviously sponsors a team and the Taiwanese firm uses the images of Cavendish and Co. to market their smartphones.
Those of us into cycling would say “too right” as the sport is photogenic, often combing images of action against scenic backgrounds with vibrant colours and bright light. And whilst it’s merely an image on a website and we shouldn’t read too much into it, it is a subtle confirmation that the advertising world increasingly views cycling as a fashionable, acceptable and safe topic.
And here’s evidence cyclists like Apple too!

Too bad Apple didn’t use the time-traveling t-shirt-wearing retro-Fred from the planet Tridork.
Apple iPad 2 out today! Yeah, only question is, will it work at the Tour de France. Need an input to get photos in. I dropped my MacBook Pro at the start of stage 3 and broke the disk drive but the rest still works. Go Apple, Go Garmin! Matt
Here today, gone tomorrow? I resent my sport becoming mainstream!
Apple’s been using Specialized images to advertise their final cut software for a while, too!
