Whilst some debate dropped chains, let’s celebrate Thomas Voeckler’s powerful ride in the stage yesterday as this is actually what great racing is all about.
Having suffered a lot in the race, and coming close to pulling out on the stage to Gap, he found the strength to go in a breakaway in the Pyrenees. He dropped his breakaway companions on the Port de Balès and soloed away for a great win. Sometimes his attacks don’t work, sometimes they do. He’s got panache.
