Cervélo Test Team have announced their team for the Tour de France and the surprise good news is the presence of Carlos Sastre. But it was a late inclusion. As late as last night it was not sure that the 2008 winner would take part. He might not be in the best of form but the squad doesn’t have too much firepower in the high mountains anyway.
I must pick up on the headline over on cyclingnews.com, “Sastre tops Cervelo’s Tour squad”. This isn’t the case. Despite devoting five paragraphs to Sastre, the squad has instead been built for Thor Hushovd, he’s got several capable riders to lead a train and chase breakaways. One Cervélo rider has told me that “Thor is flying” and everything is in place to deliver another green jersey.
