Spare a thought for Thor Hushovd. Voted by his peers as the best descender in the pro peloton, the Norwegian champion demonstrated the famous bike-handling skills by staying upright today. And more, since the bulky classics contender was at the front of the race whilst the rivals for the Green Jersey went out of the back thanks to the succession of hills.
With Chavanel’s lead shrinking and surrounded by some team mates, everything suggested Hushovds chances of taking the stage were high. Certainly he looked set to take the Green Jersey given he was bound to score points. Only the race ended up being neutralised by other riders. Something tells me he’ll be up for the win on Tuesday’s stage to Arenberg.
