Basso romped up the Zoncolan on Sunday to win with a 1:19 advantage over Cadel Evans.
Based on numbers supplied by Aldo Sassi to La Gazetta Dello Sport, Basso is pumping out 395W or 5.68W/kg but analysis by French coach Frédéric Portoleau suggests the figure could be 410W.
This is still 50W less than Basso recorded in 2006 on Monte Badone, when his performance was labelled as “extraterrestrial” by Gilberto Simoni and shortly before he was caught working with Dr Eufamio Fuentes.
Coach Portoleau has looked into Contador’s wattages and based on his riding in the 2009 Tour de France, Contador would have pulled out a lead of… three minutes on Basso during the Zoncolan climb.
