Topless cycling

Recent images from the Dauphiné seem to have upset some TV viewers as both the broadcaster and the race organiser received complaints about some riders going bare chested. In reality the riders in question simply had the jersey zip undone all the way. Nevertheless French cycling supremo Laurent Jalabert – presumably sitting somewhere comfortable – declared riders should use an undervest.

Now before you laugh, it’s probably only upset a few people and it certainly got a passing mention, it’s not exactly front-page news. Indeed I’m sure most people could not care less and above all the riders need a way to keep cool during a long climb.

But given it has been mentioned already, it might encourage others to complain or provoke more debate. This might not be the last you hear of this.
