Team Siemens-Sungard

Tuesday, 13 July 2010

It seems German electronics manufacturer Siemens will be the replacement sponsor for Saxo Bank. The company will join US IT services company Sungard.

EDIT, 11pm Euro time – some questions as to where I’ve got this information from. Well it was mentioned during the TV coverage of today’s stage by France Télévision‘s main cycling commentator Thierry Adam. During the same stage he flushed out plenty of interesting news, for example that Le Mevel is going to Garmin-Transitions, that BBox could be replaced by French postal service La Poste and that L-L Sanchez is close to signing with Rabobank.

…but a message on Twitter suggests the information might not be rock solid:

Saw that on Saxo forum. speculation that rumor may originate at Siemens logo on Saxo mobile kitchen (providing appliances)

We’ll see. I suspect Adam’s connections are better than this. If it’s true, it’ll be interesting to see if its Siemens for real or their Danish office. Should it prove to be the German giant, it’s a real coup for the Dane and an encouragement for German cycling given Milram’s concurrent withdrawal.
